When Decisions are Hard to Make !

Why is it so hard to make a decision? Many of us dawdle when it comes to making one, especially a tough decision. We seem to do pretty well being able to decide if we look better in blue or red. But when it comes to questions that begin with “what should I do about…” we duck, bob, and weave into a “no decision” syndrome.

Lots of times we sneak around to avoid making decisions. But when we are placed in a crisis where a good decision must be made, here is what seems to happen:

1. We get Cranky

2. Nothing goes well

3. Food becomes tasteless

4. Anxiety increases

5. The “What should I do about…” gnaws away at your insides and you feel terrible.

Couldn’t we have learned how to resolve this decision making process in high school? It would have been a lot easier than learning about math, English, history and science.

The good news is a simple solution that I will teach you. But first let’s examine what is going on and why making a good decision is so difficult. Here are some key points:

A. We don’t want to screw up and make a wrong decision.

B. We know that when we avoid a decision that the problem sometimes goes away and we hope that will happen this time.

C. Our decision may affect someone else and we don’t want to hurt another or cause them to think less of us. We really don’t want to disappoint someone or have them crying on our shoulder or otherwise messing up our day.

D. Making a decision is a lot of work. We may not want to put forth the effort or energy to muscle through the problem.

E. A Google search for “How to make decision easy” showed 78 million results. After checking the entire first page of results, not one of the selections made decision making simple, regardless of what their website indicated.

F. Once a decision has been made…we feel terrific, all the worry and horribleness goes away. It is amazing the powerful feeling of RELIEF that overtakes the whole body.

To sum up our trouble in the decision making process, it appears we are hesitant – we hope the problem vanishes on its own – we have become excellent procrastinators (probably because we don’t want to hurt another or have them think less of us) – and/or the effort to make a decision seems too much to deal with. And the best one is that once a decision point is reached the pain leading up to the decision is relieved!

Let me tell you a secret. Years ago a friend fell in love and married the love of their life. It was wonderful. Here is the zit…after 3 years they both were miserable in their relationship. Their dream became a nightmare. Nothing had changed yet everything had changed as they experienced physical evidence of their struggles thru headaches, stomach cramps, and insomnia. They felt hopeless. A decision had to be made.

Once they realized that life did not have to be that way, they sought help in making a decision. They also wanted encouragement to make the right decisions. They found the solution in the next paragraph…maybe you will to.

Benjamin Franklin is an amazing man. He is probably America’s most famous inventor. Ben did something that offers inspiration, which you can read about in his very own diary called “Poor Richards Almanac.” Ben had difficulty making decisions, just like us. His solution took away all stress, worry and grief. It is called the “Ben Franklin Balance Sheet” and here is how it works:

  1. Find a clean sheet of lined paper.
  2. 1 inch from the top of the page draw a line across from left side of the page to right side.
  3. Draw a line from the top of the page to the bottom of the page down the middle.
  4. Above the top line on the left side write the word “FOR”.
  5. Above the top line on the right side write the word “AGAINST.”
  6. Under “FOR” write down all the things that favor your decision.
  7. Under “AGAINST” write down all the things not in favor of your decision.
  8. Total the number of items on each side and write that number above the appropriate column.
  9. Circle the larger number…the winner has the most number of items.

Pretty simple isn’t it. If Ben did it, so can you. Here is what it looks like:

FOR

AGAINST

Now if this is just too simple for you and you want to put more effort into the decision, or just look at it from another way, please add this to the list you just made:

  • Under the “FOR” column label each item either A, B, or C. An “A” is a really important item. “B” items are less important that an “A”, but still important; all others, please label “C”.
  • Go to your “AGAINST” column and do the same exercise so that you end up with an A, B or C beside each item.
  • Now add up the “A’s” under the “FOR” and “AGAINST” columns and write those totals down…the winner should be pretty obvious.

So go ahead, make your decision, don’t agonize over it…get used to feeling good! Rejoice in that you were able to step up to the plate and resolve a pressing issue. You will feel much better and so will those around you. Let everyone know you used the wisdom of America’s Favorite inventor, Benjamin Franklin…they will be impressed and you will too.

The Personal Development Las Vegas coaching center, Choice Center has been working to improve the living style of people, ever since foundation. This is another grand attempt to mitigate the basic surviving problems by reaching out some basic living amenities to the students at Pat Diskin.

Know what is it all about – 30 volunteers from the Personal Development Las Vegas coaching center delivered more than 29,000 items of food, personal hygiene products, and school supplies collected during a 4-hour Giver Game make-a-difference stretch on Saturday. Giver Game is a volunteer philanthropy project developed by ChoiceCenter Worldwide University that is the “Amazing Race” version of charitable giving.

The items were collected for students at Pat Diskin Elementary School by the Personal Development Las Vegas coaching center where more than 70% of the school’s children live below the poverty line or in shelters. Many rely on the school to provide for their basic needs, with a group receiving one backpack a week with enough food to support their entire family. With local funding running out for this program, Giver Game volunteers collected enough items to get them through the end of the year, and beyond.

To collect the items, the Personal Development Las Vegas Center volunteers reached out to friends, family, and local businesses for support. Proving that it doesn’t take a lot of time or money to make a difference, no donation was larger than $100 in 4 hours.

Know when did the event take place – It was organized by the Personal Development Las Vegas (Choice Center) at Pat Diskin Food & Personal Care Supply Delivery on Tuesday, March 9 at 2 p.m.

Know about the venue – The direct way to Pat Diskin Elementary School

4220 Ravenwood Drive (Flamingo @ Rainbow approx.)

Las Vegas, NV 89147.

This was the address provided by the Personal Development Las Vegas unit.

A little background detail about the event – In September of 2009, 40 Giver Game volunteers adopted Pat Diskin for a 10-day Extreme School Makeover, completing $115,000 in improvements that included creating a parent resource center, providing backpacks for each child, and donating 5,000 articles of clothing. In order to restore a healthy living, the Personal Development Las Vegas training center team got together and made the event successful.

Giver Game is a volunteer and community support project developed by (Personal Development Las Vegas Center) ChoiceCenter Worldwide University. Giver Game is a challenge to complete one act of kindness daily. Every morning, Giver Game participants receive a make-a-difference stretch assignment that benefits people, animals or the planet. The giving multiplies when people play in cities all over the world simultaneously. Once a month, Givers play BIG GIVE SATURDAY together in support of a larger community project, achieving an outrageous philanthropy goal in just 4 hours

ChoiceCenter Worldwide University (Personal Development Las Vegas), founded in 1997, is a leader in personal development and leadership training, as well as business and life coaching. Courses are designed for high performers wishing to elevate their quality of life, and reach the next level of success. Does “Purpose in Life” mean I want ACCOUNTABILITY in my life? http://worldclassid.com/profiles/blogs/uncategorized/does-purpose-in-life-mean-i/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=does-purpose-in-life-mean-i Wed, 17 Apr 2019 16:15:59 +0000 http://worldclassid.com/profiles/blogs/does-purpose-in-life-mean-i/ Wow, everyone wants me to do things I don’t want to do…life is not much fun having to follow thru on other peoples desires. Wow, everyone wants me to do things I don’t want to do…life is not much fun having to follow thru on other
peoples desires. Why can’t I just do

what I want, when I want to do it?

As parents we go from being a cop to a coach to a consultant. Early in a
kids life they do something wrong and get punished. As they grow and do

something stupid we coach them on doing the right thing. Then as they become adults

we parents sit on the sidelines awaiting an opportunity to offer our sage

advice on whatever issue is raised by them.

As a business person, we wrestle with deadlines forced on us, with right/wrong decisions to be made without
enough data or time to properly evaluate the situation, and the list goes

on. The business person forces things

thru the system to “make it work”…they get it done in a way that becomes

expedient.

As a student there are different pressures. Students have a more entitled
feeling about life…usually the burdens of making a living, raising a family,

and following a call to action are not upon them. Students have huge stimuli challenging them. They

feel “that my life sucks” more than any group.

So where is this article going? How does accountability fit into
whether I am a parent, business person or a student?

The underlying thread of being a person is different from being a dog, cat or fish. People are accountable for their actions…nothing
else are.

Simply stated lets consider 6 types of accountability:

  1. I won’t be held accountable
  2. I’ll be accountable to myself (Most popular)
  3. I’ll be accountable to my friend (2nd most popular)
  4. I’ll be accountable to a person I respect
  5. I’ll be accountable to a person for a specific issue that they agree to hold me accountable for
  6. I’ll be accountable for my actions and:

A. Have agreed to real pain/burden/ ( like: financial, emotional, time, etc) for non-performance

B. Have a nice reward for actually performing

C. Both A and B

Look at all 6. Can you say you use all of them? Most of us hang around levels 1 -3, some go to 4. It takes real guts to desire
accountability levels 5 and 6.

You may remember the commercial from UPS “If you really need to get your package there by 10am…) UPS held
themselves accountable and built a system around making sure your package

arrived at its destination on time.

Business build accountability systems, governments do the same.

But what about us, regular people…what is your personal accountability system? Mine used to be duck, bob, and weave…commit nothing as all I wanted was

someone to show me the way to preserve my time for myself. While this was very selfish, it enabled me to

“live my life the way I wanted.”

Discovering life was not fun with this method of operating, I found a way to do a better job of feeling good
about myself. I found that the more

things that I held myself accountable for and got done, the better I felt… and

so did those around me.

Ouch…this was painful. But when I finally got into realizing that life is about accountability and that all I was doing was avoiding it, I
decided to make a change in my life.

This simple view allowed me the flexibility to

determine what level of accountability I desire for the task at hand. Helping people with accountability issues became

one of the reasons for a new business called Path2Success4me. P2s4ME helps people develop the good inside

them and put it to work in a way that resolves many personal and business

issues. It does provide a unique path to

find purpose in life. You might find it

helpful, so please check it out at www.path2success4me.com
